The Project

The purpose of this year's Baja Team is to redesign and improve a vehicle capable of placing first in the 2014 SAE Baja competition.

This year we have three focus teams de-voting time to the suspension, drive train, and safety & cockpit designs. Each focus team will design and implement plans to improve the vehicle in preparation for competition.

The goal of this competition is to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Our Baja team must engineer, build, test, analyze, promote, fund-raise, and compete with a vehicle that conforms to the strict rules of the competition. Each team will be judged based on various criteria including design, presentation, cost, and performance.

The Watson school allows our senior team members to satisfy the capstone project requirement with this project. From stress analysis to engineering economics and project management, this cap-stone project is the culmination of what our teammates have learned here at Binghamton University.

David Pavlick

Faculty Advisor

This is Mr. Pavlick's first Year as the Faculty Advisor for the Mini Baja and Supermilage Vehicle programs. Mr. Pavlick has been working in the Project Lead the Way program through the Rochester Institute of Technology teaching Students in areas like Design and Drawing for Production, Principles of Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Digital Electronics and Engineering Design and Development for the past 6 years. Engineering Design and Development is a high school senior capstone course where student's design and prototype an independent project that is a good stepping stone in research and design. He has been teaching for 6 years in the Engineering disciplines.

Mr. Pavlick has worked with a number of Vehicle projects ranging from an electronic Go Kart to a 5 wheeled full suspension Go Kart all designed and constructed from the bottom up. Mr.Pavlick has his AS in Construction management, BA in Technology Education and an MSED in Integrating Technology into the Classroom which has lead him to Binghamton University where he has helped these two teams evolve over the last 6 months.
